A “Ride to Remember” is part of a much larger effort in Loudon and Monroe Counties, as well as surrounding communities, to establish support for those who are experiencing the effects of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Our PLACE, once constructed, will provide programs that will enrich the afflicted individuals’ lives and provide relief for their caregivers. Additional information concerning Our PLACE is available online at www.ourplacetn.org. In Monroe and Loudon Counties, not including surrounding communities, a conservative estimate shows approximately 12,000 seniors and their caregivers are affected by dementia. Alzheimer’s and dementia are ranked as the sixth leading cause of death in the United States according to Alzheimers.net, but the only one in the top ten that has no cure.

Charlie Barnard, pastor of First Baptist Church of Tellico Village, his wife, Teresa, along with Mike and Sonia Hosick, will be taking a 7,000-mile motorcycle journey through the southwestern and midwestern states. Along the way, they have scheduled speaking engagements to bring attention to the benefits of adult day services for people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Corporate sponsors for the “Ride to Remember” include Chick-fil-A in Lenoir City, Alcoa Good Times, Merrill Lynch of Knoxville and Matlock Tire; as well as First Baptist Church in Tellico Village. Personal sponsors are needed and encouraged to donate per mile or a flat amount.
