Our PLACE Volunteers

The mission of Our PLACE, an adult day center for seniors with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s or dementia, is to improve quality of life by providing a day program of care, social interaction, and therapeutic activities in a safe and nurturing environment.

Volunteers are the heartbeat of Our PLACE.  You don’t need any prior training, just a willing heart to help those who are struggling with memory loss.  Come join our volunteer team, if only for a few hours a month, to work with our participants and provide more moments of joy.

Volunteer time can be focused on areas of interest such as music, arts/crafts, pet therapy, or working directly with our participants under the guidance of program assistants.  Alternatively, you may be interested in working with our team and the Board on event planning, fundraising, and IT support.  It all matters and we welcome anyone who is interested in sharing their time in helping us continue our essential work in the communities we serve and our desire to provide those fleeting moments of joy.

Regular Volunteers assist participants with all activities, ensuring safety while providing companionship, active listening, and reminiscent engagement. They come to Our PLACE at times that fit their schedules – four hours or more per week or as little as four hours a month. But no matter how many hours you spend with us, we promise you’ll receive more out of the experience than you’ll ever put into it.  

Special Volunteers support safe and effective therapeutic, social, and enrichment activities. Their interactions focus on the interests, talents, hobbies, and pets that the volunteers can share with the participants as an activity.  

Program Volunteers support safe and effective services provided at Our PLACE.  While this may occasionally include participant interaction, it is generally focused on activities supporting the program, such as administrative, technology, building maintenance and landscaping, outside events, marketing, grant writing, and fundraising.
