Providing our participants with engaging activities each day is one of the most important things we do. Our participants love the many activities planned each day by Amanda Yanni, our Activities Manager, and it shows in their smiles. At the end of each week, Amanda posts the top things our participants did throughout the week on this page. We hope you enjoy reading her weekly update as much as we do!
For a snapshot of all the upcoming activities this month at Our PLACE, you can view our Calendar of Activities here, and also read the Inside Our PLACE! newsletter. And you can read an enlightening spotlight profile of one of our participants.

Each day was a good day; full of fun and more moments of joy. We had a blast with music, played funny word games, and snuggled some of our favorite pet therapists. We laughed at corny jokes, delighted in many delectable treats (we just had to celebrate National Chocolate Milkshake Day!), and enjoyed each others company. We look forward to what next week has in store for us. Until then, here is a peek at a few of our favorite moments of joy from this week.
Once a month the Spritely Seniors Troop meets and we work on earning a badge. We try to pick subjects that will promote joyful engagement and be meaningful for each participant. This month we worked on the "Selfie Badge." To earn this badge we learned the history of selfies, or self-photography, and how to do them ourselves. Then we took turns practicing taking selfies and talked a little bit about how we can use this new skill at home. So, if you happen to get a selfie from one of us, you'll know we mastered it during our meeting! Stay tuned for next month's badge!
Here at Our PLACE, we LOVE celebrating birthdays! Tuesday we partied the afternoon away for a special 92nd birthday. One of our party traditions includes finding three positive adjectives that describe the individual, for each letter of their name. We collectively come up with the words and they are written big and bold for all to see! If only you could see the huge smiles these words brought the man of the hour (along with a few chuckles)! Happy 92nd birthday David, you "very cool dear!"
A participant told me that he's heard quiet a few good musicians all around the world, but by far the BEST he's ever heard was when we had music with Steve Lewis this week. Steve entertained us with an amazing set filled with classic rock songs, a few gospel songs, and many of our favorites- like John Denver. He kept us all singing and clapping along as he strummed his guitar. We are so grateful to have many talented musicians visit us!
This month marks the end of summer. So, we held a Cruisin' Out of Summer Carnival! The Tellico Car Club brought their classic cars out and we added a few carnival games to add to the festivities. Everyone got a chance to check out the automobiles and play all the games; then we all had root beer floats, cotton candy, popcorn, and peanut butter crackers on the back patio. It was an amazing event and we are so thankful for everyone that helped create these moments of joy! (Caris Healthcare, Amedisys Home Health Care, Home Instead, Right at Home, Gentiva Hospice, Senior Helpers, Tellico Village Volunteer Clowns, and Watts Bar Jellystone Park)
Until next week...
Praying you have a blessed weekend,
Amanda Yanni
