Providing our participants with engaging activities each day is one of the most important things we do. Our participants love the many activities planned each day by Amanda Yanni, our Activities Manager, and it shows in their smiles. At the end of each week, Amanda posts the top things our participants did throughout the week on this page. We hope you enjoy reading her weekly update as much as we do!
For a snapshot of all the upcoming activities this month at Our PLACE, you can view our Calendar of Activities here, and also read the Inside Our PLACE! newsletter. And you can read an enlightening spotlight profile of one of our participants.
"I turned and I was happy to see you!" — Roger (Our PLACE)
Roger’s joyful exclamation this week caught us all by surprise, but it shouldn't have—it’s exactly how we felt every time we walked into the room! This week at Our PLACE was a whirlwind of "happy to see you" moments. From high-energy exercises to spring craft projects, every activity was met with open arms and big smiles. We leaned into the unexpected, embraced music, and found that whether we were twisting pretzel dough or painting petals, the best part was doing it all side-by-side.
We were moving and grooving with Wendy again this week! Who knew we had so many secret dance stars? Wendy led us in a spirited round of the Macarena; there’s nothing like a classic line dance to get the heart rates up and the smiles glowing. The coordination and rhythm everyone showed were absolutely "A-hey!"
We had a very special visit from Ilsa for some Pet Therapy. There is a unique kind of magic in the way a dog can bring a smile to the room. Whether it was a gentle pat on the head or just watching Ilsa trot around, her visit brought a sense of quiet companionship that stayed with us all afternoon.
You can’t have a tailgate without snacks! We rolled up our sleeves and got to work making homemade pretzels. From stretching the dough to the smell of them baking in the oven, it was a full sensory experience. They were the perfect salty treat to fuel our party spirit.
We tapped into our inner artists during a Paint and Sip session with Maggie. Instead of just a canvas, we created beautiful floral vases with beautiful pink and purple flowers. It was a wonderful way to practice fine motor skills while enjoying some refreshing drinks and great conversation. Our center looks a little brighter with everyone's masterpieces on display!
At the end of the day, it’s these shared moments of joy that make Our PLACE so special. We can't wait to see what next week brings—and we’ll be just as happy to see you then!
