Sharing the Fun with You!
Providing our participants with engaging activities each day is one of the most important things we do. Our participants love the many activities planned each day by Amanda Yanni, our Activities Manager, and it shows in their smiles. At the end of each week, Amanda posts the top things our participants did throughout the week on this page. We hope you enjoy reading her weekly update as much as we do!
The Top Things at Our PLACE This Week – from Amanda
"Even busy bees stop and smell the roses!" - unknown
The days are growing longer, the weather is getting warmer, the flowers are blooming, and we've been staying busy creating more moments of joy here at Our PLACE. We've been busy sharing lots of inside jokes, several cups of coffee, and tons of laughter. We busied ourselves making cute little bee plaques to take home, immersed ourselves in a few rousing games of balloon tennis AND cornhole, and engrossed ourselves in a few really great culinary creations (can I say blueberry shortcake!!)! Even though it may sound like we've been busy bees, we really just stopped and smelt the roses. We've been relaxing together and appreciating life and all the beauty around us, indoors and outdoors. If you could be just a tiny honeybee on the wall for just one day to see all the joyful moments we have here, you'd be in awe. Until then, here is a small glimpse of a few of our favorite moments from this week.
The Top Things This Week:
The activity room was missing something. No one could put their finger on it until one participant spoke up and said, "There are no centerpieces on the tables! Where are they?!?" We fixed that problem by making some! The ladies got hard to work and created bee-utiful flower arrangements for us to put on the tables. They used pretty yellow and white flowers and added cute faux bee hives and bumble bees so they fit in with the theme of the month. Each lady took such care to arrange each piece just so. You could tell they were so proud of their masterpieces; they showed them off to everyone that came into the room and wouldn't stop smiling when someone commented on how pretty they were.
June is the month of bumble bees so we had to incorporate some into our culinary creations somehow! We made deviled eggs that looked like bees with Maggie and they were delicious! Everyone started by peeling hard boiled eggs, then we mixed the yolks with a few special ingredients, added the mixture back into the egg whites, put on some olive 'stripes,' and green onion 'wings' to complete them. Everyone was so tickled by how they looked and couldn't stop playing with their snack.
We really enjoy sitting out on the back patio. We enjoy it even more when there's a little music playing and our volunteers dance around with us! Like author Dave Barry says, “Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance.” We had the opportunity to take our music outside this week and do a little dancing. Our volunteer, Steve, had everyone laughing and clapping along to his country line dancing. Thank you Steve for creating more moments of joy for our participants!
We all love playing table games throughout the day. Some are old favorites, like Dominos, and others we learn how to play together! This week we played a newer one, Toss Up, and it got a little rowdy and very silly! It was fun to watch the camaraderie and jesting between everyone as we played. We cheered on the risk takers, and howled with delight when the dice came up green. You could see the genuine smiles and joy on everyone's faces; it was as sweet as can bee!
This is just a little peek of some of the moments of joy we created this week.
Praying you have a blessed weekend,
Amanda Yanni
