Providing our participants with engaging activities each day is one of the most important things we do. Our participants love the many activities planned each day by Amanda Yanni, our Activities Manager, and it shows in their smiles. At the end of each week, Amanda posts the top things our participants did throughout the week on this page. We hope you enjoy reading her weekly update as much as we do!
For a snapshot of all the upcoming activities this month at Our PLACE, you can view our Calendar of Activities here, and also read the Inside Our PLACE! newsletter. And you can read an enlightening spotlight profile of one of our participants.
"The calories don't count while we're here, right?" - Edith (Our PLACE)
This week was the week for birthdays! We celebrated four special participants and indulged in many sweet treats. We were ensured that calories, in fact, do not count while we're here! That gave us all the green light to bring on the treats! Besides singing happy birthday we created more moments of joy this week for all who came. We crafted our hearts out, loved on our furry visitors, and played silly games together. We basked in the outdoors, made a few new friends, and enjoyed all varieties of music. Take a peek at a few of our favorite moments from this week.
We engage in all sorts of musical activities to see what will appeal to everyone. We've found that Musical Wheel of Fortune is amongst the favorites around here. Staff will pick a song and participants have to guess the letters of the song title. Sometimes they figure out the song with just a few letters filled in!
We've been working hard on fall craft projects! This week we made black and orange Halloween themed pumpkin hangings. What started as a blank wood cutout, turned out to be a beautiful pumpkin complete with glittery black roses! We were all so proud of how they turned out.
In between all the cupcakes and treats we worked off the extra calories during sit and be fit with Maggie. She helped us stretch, then do a few leg exercises, followed by a little light weight lifting. Everyone enjoys Maggie's music selection and barely grumbled about working out, of course the promise of more snacks afterwards helps!
We were so excited to have Rick come back for music! We all love his guitar playing and can't help but sing along to "Sherry" and many of our favorite golden oldies. This week he even delighted us with an impromptu chorus of "Do Wah Diddy" (sung by special request)!
Until next week...
Praying you have a blessed weekend,
Amanda Yanni
