Providing our participants with engaging activities each day is one of the most important things we do. Our participants love the many activities planned each day by Amanda Yanni, our Activities Manager, and it shows in their smiles. At the end of each week, Amanda posts the top things our participants did throughout the week on this page. We hope you enjoy reading her weekly update as much as we do!
The Top Things at Our PLACE This Week – from Amanda
"Easter is the only time when it's perfectly safe to put all of your eggs in one basket." - Evan Esar
This week we put all our eggs in one basket, in a bag, and in lunchboxes; some were even all over the table! We enjoyed many moments of joy together before our long Easter weekend. We played with most our pet friends, listened to a variety of musicians, and made a few creations. We also spent time together telling stories, made a few new friends, celebrated a birthday, and ate some delicious snacks. Even though the week flew by, we had so much fun and created so many moments of joy! Here is just a glimpse at a few of our favorites.
The Top Things This Week:
We love when Ingrid comes to visit us. We enjoy it even more when she brings silly props and instruments to play with. This week Ingrid came bearing bunny hats for all of us to wear! She taught us how to bunny hop and a few new Easter songs! We had a great time singing old favorites, like Easter Parade, and the new songs too.
Did you know mini horses, not to be confused with ponies, are required to be less than 4 feet tall to qualify as mini? We learned so much when the STAR mini horses came to visit us this week. Not only did we learn all about them, we donned our cowboy hats and spent time with Lightening and Eddy in the beautiful sunshine. We all enjoyed petting them, brushing them, and playing ball with them. Everyone particularly loved their fashionable shoes and couldn't stop talking about how cute they were! Thanks STAR for visiting us!
Any days is a good day to bake a cake, but Tuesdays are the best days! The ladies whipped together a Pineapple Sunshine Cake for snack (because "pineapples and sunshine make everything fine!") Everyone took turns adding ingredients, folding the batter, and frosting the moist spongy pineapple cake. Little tip- when a recipe says fold, it doesn't mean to vigorously mix everything together; the ladies took turns teaching me the correct way to fold and made sure I knew the difference! The cake turned out amazing and, as always, we didn't count the calories.
To finish off the week and kick off Easter weekend, we celebrated by having a big shindig. We played a bunch of silly games, laughed a ton, and ate a delicious Easter Jello Pie. One of the biggest hits was a game of pass the egg and when you opened your egg there was a funny challenge inside; we saw silly faces, some had to act like a puppy, and someone else had to sing their favorite song. What a way to end the week; everyone had a such a great time and are now looking forward to Easter day!
