Sharing the Fun with You!
Providing our participants with engaging activities each day is one of the most important things we do. Our participants love the many activities planned each day by Amanda Yanni, our Activities Manager, and it shows in their smiles. At the end of each week, Amanda posts the top things our participants did throughout the week on this page. We hope you enjoy reading her weekly update as much as we do!
The Top Things at Our PLACE This Week – from Amanda
"When the sun is shining I can do anything; no mountain is too high, no trouble is too difficult to overcome." - Wilma Rudolph
The sun has been shining and the weather has been great this week! We climbed a few mountains, swam through a couple of streams, and created many moments of joy doing it! No troubles here, just lots of fun. We met a couple of new friends, tried unusual named snacks (beesting delight?!), and broke in our new whiteboard with some fun word games. We worked on a handful of arts and crafts projects, had quiet a few special visitors, musical and the furry variety, and celebrated a staff birthday. We had no troubles this week, just many moments of joy. Here is a glimpse at a few of our favorite moments from this week.
The Top Things This Week:
We are so fortunate to have three amazing ladies volunteer to lead sit & be fit classes for us. This week we had exercise with Jean, and everyone loved it; Jean was even asked to stay for coffee after the workout! She puts on a jazzy upbeat playlist, gets us all warmed up with some seated cardio and stretches, then puts us through the ringer with some light weight lifting exercises. Once we're done we have so much more energy! Thank you Jean for helping us sit and keep fit!
Once a month we do gardening with Lisa. She comes up with all kinds of nature related projects for us to do; lavender sachets, homemade bird suet, herb planting... This week she helped us make our very own grapevine wreaths, with handpicked grape vines soaked in water! Everyone was so excited to wind their own wreath forms and add beautiful flowers to gussy them up. After we made our wreaths Lisa helped us check our bluebird box. We found THREE bluebird eggs inside! Everyone has been so great at helping momma bluebird, and the other birds, stay fed. We can't wait to see the baby chicks when they hatch.
Claude Monet once said "I must have flowers, always and always." We feel the same way! We made wood bead flower pots with Maggie to take home this week. Each person beaded assorted wooden beads onto a pipe cleaner and twisted it into a circle. Then we added another bead in the center and a wooden stem to create our everlasting flowers. We arranged our flowers in a pot with a little moss, fern leaves, and eucalyptus. They turned out beautiful!
We are so thankful for our community partners! This week Kasi and her team from TVA Credit Union visited us and we had a bean auction! Everyone had so much fun bidding on little trinkets and trying to outbid each other. We all walked away with great prizes and happy smiles. Thank you so much for visiting us and we can't wait to see you again!
This is just a peak at some of the moments of joy we created this week.
Praying you have a blessed weekend,
Amanda Yanni
