Providing our participants with engaging activities each day is one of the most important things we do. Our participants love the many activities planned each day by Amanda Yanni, our Activities Manager, and it shows in their smiles. At the end of each week, Amanda posts the top things our participants did throughout the week on this page. We hope you enjoy reading her weekly update as much as we do!
For a snapshot of all the upcoming activities this month at Our PLACE, you can view our Calendar of Activities here, and also read the Inside Our PLACE! newsletter. And you can read an enlightening spotlight profile of one of our participants.
"Walking in today, I can just tell it's going to be a great day!" - David
As it turns out, David’s morning intuition was spot on! While the dictionary might define "great" as extraordinary or remarkable, here at Our PLACE, we measure "great" in different ways: it’s the sound of a shared laugh over morning coffee, the focus during an afternoon craft, and that gentle sense of belonging that fills our walls. When a participant walks through our doors with a smile like David's, we’re reminded exactly why we do what we do. We strive to turn every hour into an "exceptional" one—not just to create moments of joy for our participants, but to offer a deep breath of peace and respite for the caregivers who love them. The truth is, we have so much fun together that by Friday afternoon, we’re already counting down until we see these familiar faces again.
Now that the snow has finally made its debut in Tennessee, we decided to lean into the magic of the season! We spent a cozy afternoon with Teri, crafting our very own miniature winter wonderlands. Our adorable handmade snow globes—complete with little woodland wildlife—allow us to keep a bit of that snowy sparkle with us all year long, without the cold toes!
If there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s that we LOVE music in every shape and style. This week, we let our silly sides shine for National Kazoo Day! We paired our "instruments" with some favorite golden oldies for a spirited round of Name That Tune. The room was buzzing (literally!) with laughter, especially when we got to "Hey Good Lookin’"—it was the undisputed hit of the day.
As January winds down, we’re preparing to greet February with open arms and creative spirits. We spent some quiet, colorful time with Maggie creating beautiful button wall art. Each piece is as unique as the person who made it, and they’re the perfect way to add a little warmth and texture to our walls as we head into the month of love.
We were "all shook up" during music hour this week! The nostalgic, smooth sounds of Elvis and the Everly Brothers filled the room, and let’s just say we couldn't contain ourselves. From toe-tapping in chairs to twirling across the floor, everyone was up and moving to the classics. It wasn't just a music session; it was a full-blown dance party that had us all feeling young at heart!
Praying you have a safe and warm weekend. Until next week...
Amanda Yanni
