Providing our participants with engaging activities each day is one of the most important things we do. Our participants love the many activities planned each day by Amanda Yanni, our Activities Manager, and it shows in their smiles. At the end of each week, Amanda posts the top things our participants did throughout the week on this page. We hope you enjoy reading her weekly update as much as we do!
For a snapshot of all the upcoming activities this month at Our PLACE, you can view our Calendar of Activities here, and also read the Inside Our PLACE! newsletter. And you can read an enlightening spotlight profile of one of our participants.
"This is not the time for bad jokes..." Roger (Our PLACE)
When is the best time for a bad joke? Right after morning coffee, of course! To help set the stage for the fun, we celebrated with Ugly Christmas Sweater Day, Silly Holiday Sock Day, and Festive Headwear Day. Between the outfits and the punchlines, the week was filled with non-stop laughter and countless moments of joy. Here is a look at some of the moments that made this week so special.
We are always eager to learn something new, and this week’s debut of Kerplunk was an absolute hoot! You could have heard a pin drop every time a player reached for a stick. Between the held breaths, intense concentration, and whispered prayers that the marbles would stay put, the room was electric. When the marbles remained still, the silence was broken by joyful claps and cheers!
There is still plenty of time for holiday magic! This week, we channeled our inner elves to decorate wooden Christmas trees. Everyone loved selecting their favorite patterned papers to piece their trees together. Of course, the finishing touch was the most important: adding "faux" presents at the base, because as participants wisely noted, "You simply can't have a Christmas tree without gifts!"
Our volunteers are the 'star on top' of our community! We had a festive blast with Mary B. and Carolyn, who guided everyone in crafting delicious chocolate Christmas trees. Between the peanut butter cups and the holiday sprinkles, it was hard to say what was sweeter—the treats or the company! A huge thank you to these wonderful ladies for making our afternoon so merry and bright.
We also kicked off a brand-new monthly art class with the talented Linda R, and it was a wonderful success! Participants chose between two cozy winter templates and explored the fluid beauty of watercolors. It was a delight to watch everyone let their creativity flow onto the page. Thank you, Linda and Phil—we already can’t wait to see what’s on the palette for next month!
Praying you have a weekend full of holiday cheer and a very Merry Christmas next week!
Amanda Yanni
